our new place

an arduous 8 hours of driving to and from ann arbor yesterday payed off in the securing of an apartment! it's pretty big, affordable, in a good location, and not in ridiculously bad condition. a difficult combination to find in ann arbor, as we've learned. i would post more pictures, but i'm a pretty terrible photographer when it comes to apartments, and i don't think the rest of my shots would really support my above claims...you'll just have to take my word for it.

p.s. fyi: the apartment is definitely big enough to have people come visit and stay in it! i'm just saying....

thank god for quitting my job

why is this kind of thing perfectly acceptable in the workplace? (note: this isn't actually from my old office, but from the bathroom of an administrative building that i would frequently visit.)

catching up on the backlog of pictures

what could i have possibly seen cavorting on the lawn outside of my work today that would have reduced me to squeals of glee?

attack of the aprons!

i recently made 2 aprons with my roommate's fantastic sewing machine. (mathieu is shown wearing the basic tie-on apron design, and i'm wearing a more complicated wraparound buttoned version. and also bathed in some kind of unearthly light coming through the kitchen door...)

anyway, i didn't know how great aprons were until i had made them! i come home and make lunch almost every day, and with the help of my apron, i never go back to work with peanut butter smeared across my dry-clean sweaters or anything! the aprons were also really fun to make. the upshot of this story is that i really want to make more aprons, but it seems pretty ridiculous when i have 2 already now. so... anyone want an apron? just let me know.

omg.

did anyone else know (or maybe, am i the only one who didn't know) that they're re-doing the baby-sitters club books as a series of graphic novels? i can't wait to see how they depict claudia's awesome outfits....

ps to a certain bookstore employee: PLEASE TELL ME YOU HAVE THESE BOOKS.

oh yeah....

and not that this blog is all about complaining about my job (side note:
this blog is in fact all about complaining about my job), but last friday,
my boss, in response to a question i had, ACTUALLY SAID (as opposed to
every other time i ask him a question, when this response is only
implied),

"Why are you asking? Isn't it obvious?"

a dream come true (almost)

yesterday, as acrid fumes and thin clouds of smoke filled the second floor
of the library, i assumed my prayers had been answered, the place was
going up in flames, and i would never have to come back to work (or at
least for a week or something). but even though the alarms went off,
everyone left the building, and fire trucks came racing up, it must have
only been a small fire, because we all went back to work like normal.
thwarted again!
